Jay Freeman, best known as Saurik among memebers of the jailbreak community, was pleased to show off his jailbroken iPhone 4 during an interview with the folks at Make it Work Media, where he revealed that fellow members MuscleNerd and Planetbeing were working hard to get a stable jailbreak tool into the hands of iPhone users worldwide.
Although Saurik has not been acquainted with all of the members of the iPhone Dev Team, he was able to speak on behalf of the crew revealing that older exploits used to jailbreak iOS in the past are now being used to jailbreak iOS 4. However, there are still some bugs to iron out, therefore Saurik could not provide the interviewers with an exact release date of the software. Saurik handles Cydia, a replica of Apple’s App Store used on jailbroken devices.
Asked to offer a glimpse of Cydia running on his iPhone 4, Saurik was pleased to fire up the device and access the repository as the camera was rolling. Ironically, the iPhone Dev Team member had a Bumper strapped on his iPhone 4, which puts him on track for a $30 refund from Apple. Throughout the interview, signal bars stood tall.
In related news, hacker extraordinaire Gorge Hotz (or Geohot) is no longer working to come up with an iPhone 4 jailbreak. In the past, the hacker has surprised the jailbreak community by releasing efficient jailbreak tools, sometimes even ahead of the infamous iPhone Dev Team. Recently, however, Hotz suggested he had become fed up with the feedback on his blog, which prompted him to lock it up, along with his Twitter account. Days later, Geohot officially confirmed his retirement as a provider of jailbreak solutions.
“i was just having fun but some people had to take this all way too seriously. it’s just a phone, and it isn’t much fun anymore,” Geohot reportedly declared. “my bio isn’t ‘iPhone hacker’ it was just something i did occasionally when i was bored. seriously, i think many of you care way more than me,” his Twitter updates read, earlier this month. “it was a cool ride, and i’ve learned a lot about a lot. perhaps one of these days i’ll do a more formal goodbye,” he concluded.
