Dev Team Posts Important Updates on iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak & Unlock

Dev Team Posts Important Updates on iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak & Unlock:
Over the past few days, the iPhone Dev Team was happy to confirm progress on the iOS 4.2.1 front for both jailbreakers and unlockers. Because of the complicated nature of the redsn0w ,PwnageTool and ultrasn0w hacks for the latest iOS, the dedicated team of hackers has been continuously updating the iphone-dev.org blog with important information for the community.

One of the most recent updates concerns Mac users with an old-bootrom iPhone 3GS.

According to the tinkerers, those

“who really know what they’re doing” can employ “a minimal 3GS 4.2.1 bundle that will get you to 4.2.1 without updating your baseband.”
“Be sure to uncheck ‘Activate the iPhone’ using Expert mode,” the Team writes, referring to the first window presented by their Mac-only PwnageTool application.
“To actually jailbreak after you’ve restored with the help of that bundle, please use redsn0w. If you don’t know how to drop a bundle into PwnageTool.app, please hold off on 4.2.1 until it’s untethered for everyone,” goes the Team’s advice.

A separate update is entirely dedicated to the Team’s “terrific moderators angiepangie, Confucious, sherif_hashim, dhlizard, and Frank55 [who] have done a stupendous job moderating 7700 comments over just the first 12 hours (that’s 10 per minute for half a day!),” the post reads.

Finally, the most recent update addresses unlockers who’ve been reporting “mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00.”

“Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section.”

In the meanwhile, the hackers learned that baseband 06.15.00 is, in fact, capable of GPS, but “it will require some further hacks.”

The Team urges the iOS community to be “conservative” until the matter is fully addressed.

Currently, the iPhone Dev Team offers downloads for:

- PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition (Mac only)

- Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 5 for Mac OS X

- Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 5 for Windows

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
